What's this about?
Throughout 2016, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), in partnership with chambers of commerce and boards of trade from across the province, is embarking on an ambitious campaign, Small Business Too Big to Ignore. The campaign highlights the important contributions of small businesses to our economy and communities, and actively engages small businesses across the province in discussions surrounding the top barriers impeding their growth. Feedback and recommendations from these consultations is captured in the OCC's latest report, Obstacles and Opportunities: The Importance of Small Business in Ontario.
Our goals are to harness the collective strength of the Ontario Chamber Network, to champion on behalf of small business needs, and to provide a strong unified voice on the issues affecting small businesses in communities across Ontario.
Small businesses are the backbone of the Ontario and Canadian economy. They are the wealth creators, job creators and risk takers.
Small businesses of 100 or less employees constitute over 98 percent of total businesses and two-thirds of private sector employment in Ontario. These small businesses provide the livelihoods and income for many people in our communities.
Facing a number of underlying challenges that impact their ability to grow, small businesses are a powerful and significant stakeholder group that deserves to be heard and cannot be ignored.
