OCC provides nine recommendations to position Ontario’s mining sector for success in the future.
Ontario’s mining sector is one of the most important economic drivers in the province. In recent years, however, the sector has struggled. This is due to both global factors, including economic uncertainty and lower demand for mineral products, and Ontario-specific challenges. These challenges include regulatory uncertainty, a lack of essential infrastructure, and rising costs.
As a result, an upswing in global mining fortunes will not necessarily translate into renewed success for the province’s mining community. Provincial and federal governments, in partnership with industry and Aboriginal communities, must take bold steps to position Ontario’s mining sector for success in the future.
Our report, Digging Deeper: Strengthening Ontario’s Mining Advantage, contains nine recommendations designed to move the province down this path.
