OCC Calls for Review of Retail Business Holiday Act

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) has sent a letter to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing expressing its concerns over the Retail Business Holiday Act.

Currently the Act creates inefficiencies, promotes unfair competition and does not reflect the economic realities of Ontario’s industries.

The OCC recently ratified a policy resolution urging the government of Ontario to review and replace the legislation governing retail business holidays with legislation that provides choice to retailers. The OCC believes giving retail businesses the ability to determine their own operating hours will help foster a more competitive Ontario.

The OCC letter to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing complements efforts of our chamber partners to raise awareness and advocate for change to the Retail Business Holiday Act.
