OCC sends letter to the Hon. John McCallum regarding immigration reform

    OCC highlights top three priorities

On Thursday June 23d the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) sent a letter to the Hon. John McCallum, Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship that reiterates our policy priorities on the immigration file that were released in the recent OCC report, Passport to Prosperity: Ontario’s Priorities for Immigration Reform.

In this letter, we identify three key priorities that the federal government should address in the near term:

    1. Revise the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) to award additional points to graduates of Canadian colleges and universities.
    2. Remove the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) requirement from the Express Entry system.
    3. Enhance the flexibility and transparency of Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allocations.

By taking these and the further six actions outlined in our report, Canada will position itself to better leverage the talents and global connections of Ontario’s workforce.
